HAMPTON - John E. Pollard Sr., 89, of Hampton, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at his home. Born in New York City, Mr. Pollard was a longtime resident of Sussex County. He was a self-employed salesman for Hardyston Supply in Hamburg. A member of the American Society of Engineers, Mr. Pollard also was a member of the Elks Lodge in Paterson and the American Legion in Branchville. The son of the late Robert and Catherine (McIntyre) Pollard, Mr. Pollard also was predeceased by his wife, Mary G. Pollard, in 2009, and his daughter, Lynda Shearer. He is survived by his son, John E. Pollard Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Hampton; his grandchildren, Caitlyn Pollard, Joshua Pollard, Robert Shearer and Cassie Shearer; and his brother, Robert Pollard, of West Orange. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at The Church of Saint Anthony of Padua, 72 Lodi St., Hackensack. Interment will follow in Hackensack Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. Online condolences may be offered at www.smithmccrackenfuneralhome.com.
