SEYMOUR, Tenn. - Albert G. Jaeger passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. He leaves behind his loving wife and caregiver, Teresa, plus four children, Michael of Woodland Park and his wife, Barbara, Kathleen Katzenstein of Branchville and her husband, Ernie, Laureen Carroll of Wantage and her husband, Mark, and Allen of Highland Lakes, and his girlfriend, Karen Nelson; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia, in 1979.
The son of Catherine Labriola and William Jaeger, he was born May 22, 1934, in Newark, and was a lifelong resident of New Jersey. Al joined the Navy at the age of 17. After graduating Machinists Mate School at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, he signed up for destroyer duty and was stationed aboard the USS Douglas H. Fox (DD779) and became the captain's right hand for patrolling Pusan Harbor, transfers of personnel and supplies at sea, and close quarter drill. The Fox took him around the world on a goodwill tour, through the Panama Canal, the Suez Canal, the Far East, both coasts of the U.S., plus many more exotic ports like Singapore, Celon and the Carribean.
He went on to become a master plumber and was the owner/operator of Jaeger and Son Plumbing and Heating centered in Nutley, N.J., for 25 years before relocating to Homosassa Springs, Fla., for 20 years. He then retired to Seymour, Tenn., in 2009.
A graveside service will be held on Friday in Seymour, Tenn. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Branchville at the First Presbyterian Church of Branchville.
