VENICE, Fla. - Ronald James "Jim" Childs, 80, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Sparta, N.J., died Feb. 15, 2013, in Venice, Fla. He was born in Toronto, Canada, on Aug. 7, 1932. He served as a pilot in the RCAF. After leaving the service, Jim was a pilot for United Airlines, retiring in 1992. Jim enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. He also enjoyed biking, boating and flying. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. Jim is survived by his wife, Irene, of Venice; son, Steven Childs (Jean), of Marietta, Ga.; daughter, Marilyn Rhude, of Sandwich, Mass.; stepchildren, Barbara Fox (Russell), of Mooresville, N.C., and Kathleen Gianniti, of Milford, Conn.; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Ryan, Paul James, Christopher and Lauren; and brother, Edward Childs (Leslie), of Amherst, Nova Scotia. Jim is predeceased by his first wife, Margaret. A memorial gathering will be held at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel, on Sunday, March 3.
