SUSSEX - Jo Therese Smith, 84, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center. Born in El Paso, Texas, to the late Thomas Hugh Smith and Josephine (Keating) Smith, Jo Therese had received advanced degrees from the University of Texas and the University of Chicago. She had been a research chemist in her early career and retired from Witco Chemical in Oakland to sell real estate. She had been employed by Weichert Realtors in Hamburg before she retired six years ago. Jo Therese was a former member of St. Monica R.C. Church in Sussex and had also belonged to their Rosary Society. She currently had been a member of St. Jude The Apostle Church in Hamburg and was a Rosary Society member. She was actively involved in real estate and The Friends of Lake Neepaulin. Jo Therese was predeceased by her brother, John N. Smith. She is survived by her two nephews, Mark Thomas Smith, of Oklahoma, and Wayne Cooper Smith, of California. Mass of Christian Burial and interment was privately held at the St. Benedict Abbey in Harvard, Mass., on Saturday, July 6. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 12, at St. Jude The Apostle Church, Beaver Run Road, Hamburg.
