SUSSEX - Donald "Pete" Elston Sr., 80, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013, at his residence. Born in Sussex to the late John P. and Violet (DeGroat) Elston, Pete had been a lifelong resident of the Sussex-Wantage area. Pete had been the owner and proprietor of the Fountain Square Inn in Sussex for nearly 50 years. He was a lifetime member of the Sussex Fire Department and a lifetime member of the Sussex Elks. He was the recipient of the Sussex Kiwanis Club Clifton E. Lawrence Outstanding American Award. Pete was predeceased by his twin brothers, John in 1983 and Gerald in 1992. He is survived by his son, Donald "Pete" Elston Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Frankford; his daughter, Janice Utter and her husband, Stanley, of Frankford; his sister, Alice Swarts and her husband, Frank, of Wantage; grandchildren, Erin Meehan, Rita Elston, Ayla Utter and Meredith and her husband, Adam Shortway; his great grandchildren, Dylan and Xavier; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on his birthday, Wednesday, July 31, at 8:30 p.m. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Wednesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Fireman services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Private cremation services will be held at the convenience of the family.
