Mrs. Grohs was born in Ridgefield Park on Sept. 15, 1920, to the late George and Anna (Lawlor) Armstrong. She was married to Edwards H. Grohs and they raised nine children in New Milford. They moved to Paulinskill Lake with their six younger children in 1969.

The joy of Gloria and Ed's marriage and their close and happy relationship with their children set a precedent that has been passed down to their children. Gloria was a wonderful mother with a boundless capacity for fun and laughter. She had a passion for politics and the issues of the day. She enjoyed her time working in the cafeteria at Kittatinny Regional High School before her retirement at age 65.

In recent years, Gloria enjoyed socializing with the members of the Sussex Over 50 Club, AARP, the Wantage Seniors and St. Jude's Senior Group, where she was a member. She was president of the Wantage Senior Citizens from 1996 to 2000 and the Sussex Branch of the AARP in 2005. She also was a member of St. Monica R.C. Church in Sussex.

Gloria was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Edward, and her sons, Edward and Matthew. She is survived by children, Gloria and John Goebeler, Edward’s wife, Linda Grohs, Michael and Donna Grohs, Stephen and Kim Grohs, Jim and Christine Grohs, Mark and Linda Grohs, Gail and Jim Floyd, Matthew's wife, Judy Wiger-Grohs, and Lisa and Scott Smith; her beloved 23 grandchildren, James, Kenneth and Jeff Goebeler, Jennifer Barrett, Kevin Grohs, Andrea Carway, Jessica Dennehy, Michael and Edward Grohs, Kimberly Kalmanowicz, Stephanie Stephens, Melissa Schultz, James, Joseph, Brian and Michele Grohs, Christopher and Erin Grohs, Lauren Geswelli, Andrew Floyd, Alex Smith, Zac diPasquali and Jon Grohs; her 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and her brother, George Armstrong.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at St. Monica R.C. Church, 33 Unionville Ave., Sussex. Interment will follow at Clove Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects to the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank St. (Route 23), Sussex, followed by a 7 p.m. service for family and friends to celebrate Gloria's life.
