Obituary Condolences

FRANKLIN - William "Bill" Sherman Odell, 73, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at his home in Franklin. Born in Plainfield, he lived in Fanwood most of his life before moving to Franklin four years ago.

Bill graduated from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in 1958 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1965. He was employed as the director of engineering at Overlook Hospital before retiring in 2003.

He was an avid collector of antique tools and was a Civil War history buff. He enjoyed building vintage sailing ships and also was a member of the URC Sprint racing pit crew for No. 17, Sab Venezia.

Bill is survived by his wife of 11 years, Denise Odell; two daughters, Heather LaMotta and Lori Fiore; two sons, James and Joseph Porter; his sister and brother-in-law, Judi and Doug Jones; brother-in-law, Donald Lopizzo; and three grandchildren, Delaney, Nicholas and Jasmine.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood. Private cremation services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge.
