Mel was such a good friend to me during my time on Longmeadow. He taught me so much about composting and tomatoes that serves me well to this day. He was always smiling. I will miss him.

While I miss Mel's physical presence, his deep friendship and bright-eyed smile will forever be in my heart. Joan, Kathy and all loving family members; Mel talked of you constantly and cherished each and every one of you. Mel was God's way of smiling on those of us who knew or even briefly met him. What a gift it was to be part of Mel's life. I am grateful for the joy, laughter and straightforward conversations Mel and I so often shared. Simply put, Mel was a solid man of honor, integrity, character and love. He was devoted to spreading joy to the lives of others. As you grieve Mel's passing, please recall his good-humored advice, “Keep your eye on the ball and follow through.” We'll do it Mel. Thanks for the guidance. Thanks for everything.

My deepest condolence - I've only known my "crusty Marine" for a short time, but to have known him means you had to love him

Dear Kathy,Joan and family, you have our deepest sympathy on Mel's death. He was much more to us than just a friend, but more apart of our family. We loved him very much, especially Norbie. From the time Norbie was little, Mel and Norbie developed a special bond between them. It was almost like they were family. We are so thankful to God that we were priv ileged to have Kay and Mel in our lives for so many years. How lucky you all were to have such a beautiful family. We miss him so much already but know he is now at peace and in Heaven with Kay and Mike watching over all of us. Your family is so special to us that we feel apart of it. God bless you all and we are sending all our prayers and love to you. Love Norb, Pat and Norie.
