James Robert Witte, 65, of Bellevue, KY, passed peacefully at home December 30th in the embrace of his loved ones after a long illness.
Raised in Newport and Bellevue, James was a graduate of Bellevue High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University.
He served with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam awarded the Bronze Star
with Valor and a Purple Heart
James was employed over 32 years at Western & Southern Life Ins. Co. as Divisional Manager where in later years he thoroughly enjoyed representing the company in the United Way Campaign. He was also a former owner of Cincinnati Fountain News with his wife Diane.
Well known for his broad warm smile, great sense of humor and gregarious personality, he was a loyal friend always eager to help someone in need. His interests involved a passion for music of all genres, especially jazz standards and blues. A classic movie enthusiast, he was a huge fan of Astaire and Bogart. James also exhibited a poetic soul and respected the peace and solitude of the Kentucky woods at daybreak as well as fishing at Norris Lake TN.
In his last morning with us he gazed out at the fresh snow covered trees and garden giving his signature smile.
James loved and was loved by his surviving wife of 45 years Diane Mauget Witte, sons Scott (Sue) & Lee (Laura), Grandchildren Amanda, Yasmin, Collin, Madison, Bailey, Reese, Brandon and three Great Grandchildren. Also surviving is his loving sister Patricia Vories of Newport and mother-in law Bonnie Mauget (Joffre), of Fort Thomas, KY. James was preceded in death by his dearly loved parents Robert Lee Witte and Mary Catherine Witte of Fort Thomas, KY.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday February 2nd 10:30 am at St. Johns United Church of Christ, 520 Fairfield Avenue Bellevue, KY.
