Roland T. Vories, 95 of Newport, passed away on July 29, 2013 at Rosedale Green Nursing Home, Covington, KY. Mr. Vories was a graduate of Newport High School. Retired from Coca Cola, Cincinnati. Was on Newport City Council, Mayor of Newport, Campbell County Commissioner, Campbell County Juvenile Officer, was instrumental with getting federal grants to help build Grand Towers, 471 and AA Highway, Taylors Landing, and Pendery Park. Co-Founder of the Campbell County Pee Wee Football League. Was the Winning Pitcher for Shields Realty Softball Team when they played in the 1st World Tournament in Louisville, KY. Manager of the Shields Realty Knothole Team where they won several National Championships. Mr. Vories was inducted into the Knothole Hall of Fame and the Northern Kentucky High School Hall of Fame. KY Colonel. Air Force Glider Pilot during WWII. Member of the Lawler-Hanlon VFW Post, Newport. Roland also was able to meet President Kennedy and President Nixon. Born July 24, 1918 in Sparta, KY. Preceded in death by his Wife, Elizabeth Ann (nee Boswell) Vories, Son, Richard Vories,and Brother, Les Vories. He is survived by his Sons, Gary (Lara) Vories of Alexandria, KY, Kent (Dottie) Vories of Greendale, IN, and Daughter-in-law, Pat Vories of Newport, KY. Also 8 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. Visitation 10:00 am to 12:30 pm, Monday, August 5, 2013 at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home,427 S. Fort Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas,KY. Service will be held 12:30 pm Monday, August 5, 2013, at the Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate, Kentucky with Military Honors.
