Sister Ruth Marie Kolkmeier,CDP died on March 21, 2013 at Holy Family Home in Melbourne. She was 84 years of age and a professed member of the Congregation of Divine Providence for 66 years. Ruth Kolkmeier was the second of six children born to Herman and Alma Kolkmeier. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Lawrence. She is survived by her sister Mary Sarge of Georgia, and three brothers, Paul Kolkmeier of Independence, James Kolkmeier of Covington, Ray Kolkmeier of Bridgetown, OH, nieces, nephews, and the Sisters of Divine Providence. Sr. Ruth entered Saint Anne Convent on August 16, 1947, made her first profession of vows in 1949 and professed her final vows in August 1954. Sr. Ruth was born and raised in Newport, KY and never lost her love and commitment to the people in the inner cities of Covington and Newport. Following her 28 years in the field of education, she began a ministry close to her heart, serving the elderly and families in financial need. These ministries included home visiting through the Senior Citizens Organization in Covington, an outreach program through the Northern KY District Health Department and serving as Housemother in adult resident homes in Covington and Newport. Upon the completion of a CPE program in 1985, she served as a pastoral minister at Corpus Christi Parish in Newport from 1985-1998. From 1998 until her retirement in 2004, Sr. Ruth faithfully served her community as seamstress. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Anne Convent on March 25 at 4:30 p.m. Dobbling, Muehlenkamp & Erschell Funeral Homes is handling the arrangements.
