Virgil L. Moore, 95, formerly of Covington, KY, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013, following a brief illness. Virgil was born on October 11, 1917, in Long Prairie, MN, to Worth and Mathilda Hoffarth Moore. He proudly served his country in WWII, in the U.S. Army, and retired after 30 years of active duty and reserve service. Following the war, he graduated from mortuary school and worked as an embalmer and funeral director for several years before his employment with the Internal Revenue Service, from where he retired. He was always involved with his community, and was a member of NARFE and the Ft. Wright Hilltoppers, among others. Virgil also enjoyed traveling. He is survived by two children, Michael (Barbara) Moore of Plano, TX and Melanie Hamilton of Mansfield; four grandchildren, Stephan Moore of Pawtucket, RI, Bryan Moore of Augusta, GA, Ryan Patterson of Ashland, OH, and Lindsay Patterson Garn also of Ashland; one great-granddaughter, Iris Jean Moore of Augusta, GA; six siblings, Jean Tredal of Sun City, AZ, Donald (Lou) Moore of Melrose, MN, Kenneth Moore of Idaho, Phyllis Barnes Larsen of Council Bluffs, IA, Luanne Minke of Long Prairie, MN, and Carol ("Tiny") Garlock of Carlos, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, his wife, Joy Anna Mack Moore, and two siblings, Evelyn O'Hara and Robert Moore, preceded Virgil in death. Memorial services will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Ft. Wright, KY at 11:30 AM on February 4, 2013. Burial will take place at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville, KY, at a later date. Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Ave. East, Mansfield is handling the arrangements.
