Charles "Charlie" Gosney Holmes, Sr. was born in Bellevue, Kentucky to William Wandelohr Holmes and Ava Blanche Pelley Holmes on December 31, 1926. He died on Saturday, January 12, 2013 in Edgewood, Kentucky.

Charlie lived his young life in Bellevue, Kentucky and graduated from Bellevue High School in 1945. Charlie married Claire Lou Amend on April 10, 1950 and is survived by Claire and their children: Charlene Gail White (Anthony); Connie Gaye Larson (Jan Arthur); Charles Gosney Holmes, Jr. (Yvonne Rich); Clayton George Holmes (Nancy Appel); Christopher Gary Holmes (Elizabeth Zerhusen). He leaves two sisters: Margaret Worth Brewer and Anna Bryan Holmes of Ft. Thomas; Grandchildren: Catrina, Coleman, Caroline, C.J., Corinne, Carter, Chase, Kyle and Karston. He is preceded in death by siblings: Ava Wandelohr Horne, Colonel William Webster Holmes, John Coleman Holmes, Mary Lee Roberts, and James Wandelohr Holmes.

He enlisted in the Navy during WWII in Cincinnati, Ohio and received basic training at Great Lakes, Illinois. He served in the South Pacific on the supply ship the U.S.S. Talita. Charlie retired in 1986 as Vice President from Fifth Third Bank - formerly Bellevue Commercial and Savings Bank, Bellevue, Kentucky. He was an active member in the community and received the honorary title of Kentucky Colonel in the 1970's. He was a member and held offices in the Alexandria Lions Club, Hillcrest Colonels, Bellevue Veterans Club and then the Alexandria VFW, Bishop Brossart Boosters and St. Mary's Seniors.
