Imogene Cheesman Bradley, 84, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Jefferson Manor. Beloved wife of 36 years to the late Ted Bradley. She was born in Nicholson, KY to the late Richard F. and Elizabeth (nee Callen) Cheesman. Loving sister of Richard Cheesman Jr. (Elizabeth), Lois Piercefield and the late Marcella Browning and Layne Cheesman. Also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. She graduated from the KY School for the Blind (KSB) in 1949. She received a scholarship to the Univ. of Louisville Conservatory of Music and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Degree in 1953. Afterwards, the KSB recommended her for a one-year position at the Kansas School for the Blind teaching music. She furthered her education during summer months at Kansas, as well as the Univ. of TN and the George Peabody College for Teachers. In 1958, she received certification by the Library of Congress as a Braille Proofreader. From 1962-1972 + 1977-1991, she taught piano, vocal music and Braille at the KSB. She performed numerous concerts throughout her school and teaching career and directed the Seniors Choir at KSB. In 1994, the KSB bestowed the formal honor of dedicating her name to Apt. 301 in Howser Hall. She was a Life Member of the KY Council of the Blind, KSB Alumni Assn and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. As a devout Christian, she maintained many friendships through her church affiliations. She was a long-time member of the Clifton Baptist Church until joining the 4th Avenue United Methodist Church with her husband in 1966. After his death in 1998, she became a member of Crescent Hills United Methodist Church until 2004 when she moved into assisted living and attended services held by the Clifton Baptist Church where she enjoyed playing the piano and selecting the weekly hymnals. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 11 AM until 12 PM, immediately followed by a chapel service at Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Ave., Louisville, KY 40206. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in a private burial at Cave Hill Cemetery.
