Ruth Evelyn Smith, of Highland Heights, passed away on April 22, 2013, in Butler, Kentucky. Ruth was 101 years old, and was a retired school teacher. In her earlier years, she taught in the one room school house of Alexandria Elementary, and then later on taught Newport High School. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and Kentucky Teachers Association. Ruth was a 4-H state champion and went to the White House to meet President Coolidge. Ruth is the last of five sisters, Ava, Eula, Edna and Neva. She leaves behind two nephews, Bill and Truett Gardner, dear friends, Le and Dan Drake, and a host of nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Cooper Funeral Home, on Friday, April 26, from 5-8pm. Funeral Services will be held at Cooper Funeral Home, on Saturday, April 27, at 10am. Burial will be at Alexandria Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church for Missions at 5147 Lees Rd., Alexandria, Kentucky 41001.
