Sarah E. Menez, age 59, of Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky passed away on July 8.
She spent most of her entire career in retail sales in New York City, while studying and pursuing a career in the theater, and in the Greater Cincinnati area, but withdrew from the workforce after the onset of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).
Before the dreadful disease forbid such activities, she had an active life style in that she loved to walk, especially in parks and on walking trails, exercise, attend the theater, listen to live music, and eat out in the company of good friends. She loved spending time on Martha's Vineyard and visiting the Black Dog Tavern. An ardent musical-theater buff, she kept a large collection of playbills from the many performances she had attended. As a lifelong music lover, she had an irrepressible fondness for playing the jazz piano and possessed a beautiful voice.
She was a humanitarian and passionate about social justice and animal welfare, and had a particular affection for cats. She volunteered in a program to read to blind persons.
She attended the public schools in the Whitehall School District in Columbus, Ohio, graduated from Mariemont High School in Cincinnati, and attended Boston University.
She leaves behind her husband, Joe, two stepdaughters, Katherine Menez and Elizabeth Christ, a cat, Allie, and five dear girlfriends Mary Lou Blake, Leanette Bockweg, Joan Eggemeyer, Pinky Morgan, and Francine Tigges.
She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
Having lived the last years of her life in a downward spiral with unfathomable hardship due to ALS, may she rest in peace.
Her parents Robert and Agnes Crabbs of Mariemont, Ohio predeceased her in 2001 and 2007 respectively. At her request, there will be no funeral. The memorial service will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Internment will be at the Union Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio alongside of her parents.
In celebration of her life, and in lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Northern Kentucky ALS Association at 2815 Amsterdam Road, Villa Hills, KY 41017 or Hospice of the Bluegrass at 7388 Turfway Road, Florence, KY 41042
