Jane McKnight Mesick
Jane McKnight Mesick died on December 13, 2012 at the North Adams Regional Hospital. She was 85 years old and she had spent 62 of those years with her husband Donald. She was born in Elizabeth, N.J., but spent most of her youth in West Hebron, N.Y., where she attended school in Salem, N.Y. She graduated from Westminster College located in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, and after taking courses at the University of Pittsburgh, Albany State College, she got her master's degree in Psychology at North Adams State.
She was a very people-oriented person. She worked doing welfare assessments for Washington County in New York. She also worked for many years in the school system, primarily in Adams, where most of her time was spent evaluating special needs and developing programs to fit those needs. She loved this work and when she brought work home, it was usually a disturbed teenager, some who stayed a few days. But she also enjoyed retirement very much.
She loved her family very much. She was an amazing support for her husband who had a variety of ventures outside of his regular job. Some were successful, others not. But in either case she was there to slap him on the back or cheer him up.
For many years, she was active in the First Congregational Church, serving on a number of committees. She also drove for cancer and worked in the Williamstown Information Booth. She had two great passions. She was a great cook and loved taking dishes to people that were ill or older folks who appreciated the gesture. She was an excellent and aggressive bridge player who won more often than not. She was also an avid reader.
She is survived by her husband, three children, Leland, Stephen and Melinda, a brother John and a sister Mary, and four grandchildren Kellee, Clair, Malorie and Jackson.
