Cecil P. Balderson(1912 - 2018)

Born in Warsaw, VA on Oct. 2, 1912, Cecil P. Balderson, 105, graduated Valedictorian of his Warsaw High School class.  He attended VPI (Va. Tech.) from 1930 to 1932, serving in Company H of the Corps of Cadets.  After college he worked as a desk clerk at the Hotel William Byrd in Richmond, VA, then as a sales representative for Texaco and the Balcrank Corporation, later acquiring Central Virginia Oil Company. He received his Masonic Degrees in Temple Lodge No. 676 in Charlotte, NC, entering Apprentice on January 6, 1959, and attaining Master Mason on February 3, 1949.  He affiliated with Lee Lodge No. 209 in Waynesboro, VA on May 8, 1969. On March 28, 1936 he married Violet Bush.  They were married for 71 years, until her death in Feb. 2007. Cecil had several hobbies.  He was a voracious reader; grew an abundance of roses, which were admired by many; loved music and started playing the harmonica at age 5 up until the very end – he was "pretty darned good."  He also enjoyed golf, playing until he was 90 years old. In addition to his parents, Thomas Addison and Cora Franklin Balderson; he was preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses, Eunice Odell (Frank), Eleanora Sapp (William), Carrol Balderson (Louise), and Mabel Reamy (Roland). Surviving are his son, Cecil P. Balderson Jr. (Dorothy); granddaughter Kim Bailey (Joseph); nieces and nephews. A service was conducted at 12 Noon Friday, July 20, 2018 at McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro, by the Rev. Dr. Glen A. Holman.  Burial followed in Riverview Cemetery. The family requested no public viewing.
