Phillip Gates Thorne

Philip Gates Thorne, 86, of Heathsville, VA, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016. He was an ordained deacon and a member at New Hope Baptist Church. Philip loved sacred and classical music, and enjoyed flowers and boating in his pastime. He was a member of the Northumberland Historical Society, due to his passion for history.

Philip is the son of William Thomas Thorne III, and Evelyn Constance Gates Thorne.

Mr. Thorne is survived by his wife of 65 years, Emily C. Thorne; four children, David Philip Thorne (Leona) of Linwood, NJ, Emily Patricia Butman (John) of Cumming, GA, Timothy Martin Thorne (Nori) of Sedona, AZ and Stephen Daniel Thorne of Idaho Falls, ID; brothers, Kenneth Donald Thorne (Genevieve) of Waldorf, MD and Paul Herman Thorne (Patricia) of La Plata, MD; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church at 2596 Walmsley Road, Lottsburg, VA 22511 with visitation one hour prior to the service.

A committal service will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens at 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy, Frederick, MD 21701.
