Hamilton, Philip* - Montvale  
HAMILTON Philip S., age 85, of Montvale, NJ, died peacefully in his sleep on June 4, 2016. Phil was born in Bayonne, NJ and served 4 years in the US Navy during the Korean war. After his service in the Navy, he attended NYU and graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed with Aurora Pump as regional manager and upon his retirement, he and Elsa moved to Stuart, FL. He is survived by his loving wife Elsa Hamilton and would have celebrated his 60th anniversary to her on July 21st of this year. Phil loved his family and grandchildren very much. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Susan Hamilton and is survived by his son Tom Hamilton and his wife Sharon of Ellijay GA, daughter Kathy Mason and her husband Dave of Emerson NJ, Bob Hamilton and his wife Beth of Princeton, NJ and sister Carol Anzalone of Emerson, NJ. 'PopPop' to grandchildren Christine Escalano, Katie Hamilton, Collin Hamilton, Justin and Jaiden Mason, Garrett and Spencer Hamilton. The family will hold a private memorial in NJ.

HASTINGS Marjorie B., age 91 of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Hackensack, NJ died on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House, Charlotte, NC. She was born in Bogota, NJ and had resided in Hackensack, NJ and Point Pleasant, NJ before moving permanently to Charlotte, NC. Prior to her retirement, she was a secretary for the Bergen County Election Division in Hackensack, NJ. During her retirement, Marjorie and her husband Henry, enjoyed spending time at their home in Point Pleasant, NJ. Marjorie is survived by her loving husband, Henry A. Hastings of Charlotte, NC and two sons; David Hastings and his wife, Joanne of Fort Mill, SC and Henry Hastings and his wife, Annease of Manassas, VA. Also surviving are four Grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com , 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ 07481. The interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus, NJ.

Hetel, Nellie* - Garfield  
HETEL Nellie (nee Gut), age 99, a long time Garfield resident passed away surrounded by family on June 27, 2016. She was born in Passaic to Polish immigrants Antonina and Frank. She went to Holy Rosary School and Passaic High School. She met and married her husband, Frank, with whom she spent 26 wonderful years. They moved to Garfield where they raised their two children, Barbara and Roger. Her first job was working in Macinernie's Handkerchief Factory in Passaic. During and after World War Two she worked as an inspector of B-29 engines at Curtis Wright in Wood-Ridge. She later worked at Kodak in Fair Lawn and ended her work career at Liz Claiborne in Secaucus. She also worked for the Bergen County Board of Elections as a poll worker until she was 95. Nellie was active in Garfield Fire Company 4 Women's Auxiliary for many years. She loved shopping, especially in New York City, and traveling. Together with her son she organized and ran monthly bus trips to Atlantic City to raise money for the Pulaski Parade Association of St. Stan's Church. She is predeceased by her husband Frank (1968), her son Roger (2016), and three brothers Stanley, Eugene, and Thomas. She is survived by her daughter Barbara, and her grandson Greg and his wife Kim, her brother Robert Gut and his wife Florence, and many nieces and a nephew. Visiting Wednesday 3-8 PM. The funeral is Thursday, June 30, 2016, arriving at the Aloia Funeral Home at 9 AM followed by a 10 AM mass at St. Stanislaus Kostka R.C. Church, Garfield. Interment St. Michael's Cemetery, South Hackensack. Donations can be made to the Roger Hetel Memorial Scholarship Fund. Hiertz, Matthew* - Woodcliff Lake  
HIERTZ Matthew James, died unexpectedly near Bear Mountain on June 19, 2016 in Cornwall, New York at the age of 49. He was playing with his son outside in a forest, doing what he loved with someone he adored. Matthew is survived by his mother, Judith Lockwood Hiertz of Glenview, IL; wife, Susan Hiertz, children, Thomas and Payton of Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey; siblings, Joseph Hiertz of Northbrook, IL, John Hiertz of northern Wisconsin, Anne Sbarbaro, of Glenview, IL Matthew James Hiertz was born on Dec 3, 1966 in Evanston, IL to John F Hiertz and Judith Lockwood. He graduated from Barat College in 1991 with a BS degree in Computer Science. He completed Army Officer Training and served the Army National Guard for 6 years. He married Susan Hiertz, his life long love, in May of 1993. His first job out of college was for the Andersen Consulting and at the time of his passing, he served as the Director of Data Center Operations and Service Management for NYU Langone Medical Center. His children know him as a kind, thoughtful man with a keen sense of humor who always challenged the status quo and encouraged his children to pursue their hearts. A few of the nicknames he was known by "Opie" "Mr. Bunny" "Papa Bear" "Pizza Guy" "Mall Cop" "Lily White" . He was beloved in both Chicago and New York. A visitation is scheduled for 3pm-9pm, Wed, June 22 at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ 07675. www.becker-funeralhome.com At 6pm Father Thomas Norton will lead us in a blessing and immediately following, we will share stories of his life. All are welcome to attend and celebrate. Matt will be cremated and an entourage of his family and friends will drive his ashes straight through without stopping (like Matt always did) to Chicago.
