Frei, Anne* - Rochelle Park
FREI Anne, 93, of Rochelle Park, NJ, earned her angel wings and went home on December 19, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Anne was born on December 30, 1920 in West New York, NJ, one of seven children. Anne was fully paralyzed for a year from bacterial meningitis when she was seven years old. Having the voice of an angel, she sang for a local radio program and several school plays when she was in her early teens. Anne married Joseph Frei in August 1942 at St. Mary's Church, West New York, NJ. They moved to Boca Raton, FL, where Joe served in the Army Air Corps. While there, Anne was an elevator operator and sang for the USO, entertaining soldiers stationed in Florida. Larry, the first of their four children was born there. Following a move to Rochelle Park, NJ, they bought a house and furnished it with three more children, Carol, Teresa and Robert, who were all born in Hackensack, NJ. Anne was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, Rochelle Park, NJ. She dearly loved her church and was a member of the Rosary Society, Helping Hands, and the church choirs of Sacred Heart and Holy Trinity Church, Hackensack, for many years. Anne worked as a floater and sales clerk at A&S in Paramus, NJ, for 25 years. Anne sang for funerals and weddings in her church, liked to garden, travel throughout our country, enjoyed bowling, collecting rocks, reading, crewel work stitchery, loved her cairn terrier, and was a very capable seamstress. Anne loved her wonderful neighbors, and most of all, her large, loving family. Her greatest joy was being in their midst, watching their antics and activity. Anne is survived by her four children (Larry Frei of Norman, Oklahoma; Carol Hammond of Warrensburg, MO; Teresa Pegg of Maywood, NJ; and Robert Frei of Saddle Brook, NJ), her six grandchildren (Deanna, Gregory, Kendall, Jennifer, Allison, and Michael), four great-grandchildren (Paul, Ashley, Finn, and Kaitlyn), two brothers (Philip Herb and John Herb), one sister (Regina Sippel), and many nieces and nephews. Anne is predeceased by her husband (Joseph Frei), two brothers (Fred Herb and Lawrence Herb), and a sister (Agnes Pfeifer). Anne loved the company of other people and would sit under the dogwood tree in her front yard, watching the neighbors go by. She loved music her whole life, greatly enjoyed a good adventure story, baby dolls, and her black cherry ice cream. She was feisty and loveable, happy to take down a fence to accommodate a neighbor's construction, another time insisting the mailman come in for a drink of water and rest on a hot summer's day. She cherished the pats on her shoulder as she sat in the church pew with folks passing by her. She was a sweet and funny person and leaves us with many a hilarious memory. Anne is dearly loved and will be sadly missed by those she leaves behind. Anne, may you rest always in peace, in God's loving care. Family will receive friends on Monday, December 22, 2014 from 11 to 1 PM, at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 South Farview Ave., Paramus, NJ. Following will be a 1 PM Funeral Service at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home. Interment George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in Anne's memory may be made to Amedisys Hospice, 25 E. Salem Street, 2nd Floor, Hackensack, NJ, 07601.
