PARAMUS — Arsenio L. Darvin Sr., 95, died on July 24.
He was a Staff Sargent in the United States Army
who served in the Philippines during World War II
. He was a member of the American Legion Post 226 in Paramus and Post 2 in the Philippines. He was also a member of the United States Armed Forces of the Far East (USAFFE) 41st Division in the Philippines and a member of the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor. He was vice commander of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines and POW of World War II. He was a survivor of the Bataan Death March in April of 1942. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Visitation R.C. Church in Paramus.
He was the father of the late Isagani Darvin and wife Josie, Deanna Darvin, Aida Hernandez and husband Joe, Lucila Oula and husband Seng, Arsenio Darvin Jr. and wife Daisy, Wenie Darvin and wife Fatima and Norma Ortiona-Frani; his grandchildren, Wawie and Pam Hernandez, Joy and Alvin Torres, Len Lesaca and husband Jay, Charles Darvin, Kristine Darvin and Kevin Darvin; and his great-grandchildren, Russell and Nicole Hernandez, Alyssa Torres and Lyndsey, Jake and Jamison Lesaca. He was predeceased by his wife, Maria (Medina).
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 25 and from 4 to 10 p.m. on Friday, July 26 at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 South Farview Ave. in Paramus. Funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, from the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Visitation R.C. Church in Paramus. Entombment will be at Garden of Memories in Washington Township.
