Desmond, of Rochelle Park passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. He was born in Wexford, Ireland in 1936 as one of eleven children. He served in the Irish Army and was a star on the All-Ireland hurling team. In 1961, he moved to Brooklyn, NY and started in banking as a teller. His career spanned over 40 years and he retired in 2001 as a senior vice president. He was a long serving and dedicated member of the Rotary and Chamber of Commerce in Saddle Brook. Desmond loved sports, was an optimistic Mets fan and an avid history, geography and politics enthusiast. Desmond will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 46 years, Patricia, his devoted children, Stephen, Peterjohn and his wife Dina and Ann Karabin and her husband Jeffery. The greatest joy and happiness came from his beloved grandchildren, Aaron and Patrick. The family will receive family and friends Monday 6-9 PM at Vander Platt Memorial Home S-113 Farview Avenue Paramus, NJ 07652. A funeral mass is planned for 10 AM on Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church in Rochelle Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of Desmond may be made to the Sacred Heart Church Food Pantry, 12 Terrace Avenue Rochelle Park, NJ 07662 or the Rochelle Park Ambulance Corps.
