George Nicholas, age 84, of Closter passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011. Beloved husband of Zaharoula. Devoted father of Nick and his wife Angeliki, Zach and his wife Angela and Helen Poulis and her husband Nick. Loving grandfather to Jacie, Cassandra, Jaclyn, George, Yanna and Antonia. George was born in Anavriti, Sparta, Greece, immigrated to the United States in 1946 and settled in Brooklyn, NY. Before beginning his life in the US, he was drafted into the Korean War where he fought for his new country for two years. Upon his return, he became a resident of Fort Lee for 22 years and then relocated to Closter. He was a parishioner of St. John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Tenafly and was a restaurant owner for many years before retiring. Visitation Tuesday, November 1st, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Barrett Funeral Home 148 Dean Drive Tenafly. Funeral Wednesday, November 2nd 10 AM, St. John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Cathedral Tenafly.
