Gerald, of Park Ridge, passed away on October 12, 2013. Gerald was born on March 8, 1928. He was a 'family man' in the finest sense. Jerry upheld traditional values; he worked hard, loved his wife, Sally, to whom he was married for 60 years, loved his children, adored his grandchildren, saved, provided for his family, and when not at work, was at home. He was a gentleman, a 'straight arrow' who did not drink or smoke, yet always interesting and interested. From kibitzing with waiters to inquiring endlessly about the activities of his beloved children, grandchildren and extended family members, he enjoyed engaging with those around him. Even while ill during recent years, he always tried to be present with others.
And, he was brave. He struggled against Parkinson's and its ravages with hardly a hint of complaint, and not a trace of self-pity.
He was also an innovator, who took risks. Although disposed to stolid personal conservatism, he had great vision, recognizing long before the world was regarded as 'flat', the immense geo-economic changes that were occurring, and adjusted remarkably, creating a new business in which he became a regular visitor to China. He and his wife suddenly were enjoying Asia and their new found friends and colleagues. Jerry's business flourished, enabling him to continue proudly helping support his family, and providing him great pleasure.
Gerald Kleinman is survived by his wife, Sally, son Howard and his wife Elizabeth Albert and his grandchildren Theodore and Margot Kleinman, and his son Stuart Kleinman, MD. We will all miss him.
