Herman Marcus

Herman Saul, originally of Passaic, NJ, died May 6, 2013 in Bakersfield, California, exactly one month before his 85th birthday. Herb, as he preferred to be called, was a letter carrier and retired from the United State Postal Service in 1986. He also served in the United States Army during WWII.
Herb met his wife, Gloria, through a matchmaker in 1957. That evidently was a successful match as they were married for 43 years until her death in 2001. During their marriage they had three children, David, Arlene and Debbie.
Herb and Gloria moved from NJ to California to Florida throughout their retirement years. When Herb became a grandfather, he was then lovingly referred to by everyone as Poppy. Poppy would spend his quality time between California and upstate New York visiting his six grandchildren.
Survivors include his son David Marcus of Bakersfield, CA, daughter and son-in-law Arlene and Virgil Aninion of Bakersfield, CA, and daughter and son-in-law Debbie and George Colabatistto of Wappingers Falls, NY. His pride and joy were his grandchildren Brittany, Alexandria, George Jr., Genaro, GloriAnn, Anthony (Guy), and two great-grandchildren, Miles (Giovanni) and Aero.
Burial will be on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at 11:00 am at Riverside Cemetery, Saddle Brook, NJ with a luncheon to follow at Bel Posto restaurant in Hackensack, NJ. Arrangements made by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman, Livingston, NJ. A celebration of life will be held at Calvary Bible Church in Bakersfield, CA on Friday, May 17 at 11 AM in the Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA.
