Irene Lynch, 92, went peacefully to her heavenly home on Monday morning May 6, 2013. Irene was born on April 11th, 1921 to Joseph and Margaret Lynch in her parents' home in Wallington, NJ.
On June 6, 1943 Irene married her high school sweetheart, Harold John Rieder. She and Harold lived in New Jersey as they raised their daughter, Peggy, and pursued their careers. Since 1985, they have enjoyed living in Kokomo, IN -- close to their extended family and friends.
Irene graduated from Thomas Jefferson HS in Lodi, NJ in June 1939. She received her Nursing diploma from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Passaic, NJ in 1942. She worked as an RN at several hospitals in NJ including St. Mary's, Passaic General, Beth Israel and Saddle Brook hospitals. She frequently would tell others "nursing is a wonderful profession." She thoroughly enjoyed caring for people in her assignments as a nursing professional for over 40 years.
Irene is survived by her husband Harold and their daughter Peggy (Frank) Faulkner and her grandchildren Michelle (Stu) Nicholson, Adam (Alicia) Faulkner and a total of 5 great grandchildren; Nathan & Natalie Nicholson and Amira, Avarie & Acey Faulkner. She was preceded in death by her parents and her 5 siblings and their spouses, Jack Lynch (Helen), Henrietta (James) Skellenger, Joseph (Ilona) Lynch, Elizabeth (Lorenzo) Barchi and Dorthea (Jack) Puleo. Irene's father would affectionately encourage her to gather around the piano and sing with the other Lynch family musicians.
There will be a funeral service at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church (First EPC) 2000 W. Jefferson St. In Kokomo on Saturday morning starting at 10 AM with Pastors Jerry Van Auken and Joyce Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Garden. Friends can visit the family from 4-7 PM at Shirley & Stout Funeral home, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd on Fri. May 10th at the Lincoln Road Chapel, and prior to the funeral service at the First EPC church on West Jefferson St, Kokomo starting at 9 AM on Saturday morning May. 11th.
