Irene (Giaimo), 89 formerly of Hawthorne and Midland Park, died on Friday September 20th 2013, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Irene was the youngest child of Emidio and Josephine Giaimo, born on February 10, 1924. She attended Hawthorne High School and graduated with an RN degree from Saint Joseph's School of Nursing in 1945.
She was a head nurse at the Barnert Memorial Hospital in Paterson for 40 years in charge of the newborn nursery. Her love of babies lasted her whole life. She was a natural caretaker and devoted to her children and grandchildren. She proudly participated in The Nurses Health Study conducted by Harvard University
for 30 years.
She is survived by her beloved daughter Nanci and son-in-law George, who looked after her all her life, her daughter-in-law Kathy DeVries Statham, her adored grandchildren Jeffery and Gregory Statham and Elizabeth, Andrew and Kathryn (Kitty Kat) Reenstra and great-grand-children Madison Statham, Tess Annabel Reenstra and James Mason Statham.
She is also survived by her son David of Brick Township.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert John Statham, her brother Dominic (Dee) and sisters Fay, Ethel, Lillian and Adele.
