Jack (Jacob), age 91, of Fair Lawn, passed away on August 21, 2013 with his wife and daughter at his bedside. Jack was born in West Hoboken, the son of Julius and Ida Abramson.
He served in the United States Army for three and a half years during World War II
, initially stationed as a Staff Sergeant and bugler at Fort Hood, Texas. He was deployed to Germany after the Battle of the Bulge and was in transit to the Pacific theater as the war ended.
Before retiring, Jack was a butcher for Shop Rite. He also worked at Beef and Beyond. He was active with the Fair Lawn Senior Friendship Club and served as its President for several years.
Jack was a loving, caring and quiet man who took great pride from his family. A devoted husband, he married Carolyn (nee Barth) in May 1950 and they recently celebrated their 63rd Anniversary. They lived in Paterson before moving to Fair Lawn in 1960.
He is the loving father of a son, Larry of Upland, California and of a devoted daughter, Eileen Friedman and her husband Steven of Fair Lawn. He was extremely proud of and absolutely cherished his two granddaughters, Alissa Friedman of Cincinnati and Jennifer Friedman of Fair Lawn. He is predeceased by his two sisters, Eve Bloom and Estelle Baum. He is survived by several loving nephews and nieces who kept in touch with him regularly. He looked forward to all events and holidays where he would be surrounded by his family.
Jack was admired by all whose lives he touched. His pleasant, friendly demeanor coupled with his sense of humor will provide lasting memories. He will be missed so much by so many.
Services will be held at noon on Friday at Louis Suburban Chapel, 13-01 Broadway, Fair Lawn NJ. Interment will be in Menorah Cemetery in Clifton. The mourning period will be observed at his daughter's house in Fair Lawn through Tuesday. The family requests that donations in Jack's name should be made to your favorite charities.
