Hawthorne — John James|Baxter, 77, died Dec. 28.
He was the husband of Alma M. Baxter; father of Robert J. Baxter of Hawthorne; grandfather of one; brother of William "Bud" Baxter and his wife, Gail, of Seymour, Conn.; uncle of two; great uncle of four nephews; nephew of Louise Grohbrugge; and cousin of Kenneth Grohbrugge.
Born in Jersey City, he lived in Hawthorne for 44 years. He served his country as a corpsman in the United States Navy
from 1954-1958. He was employed as a salesman for Continental Baking Co., Secaucus, and Nabisco, Fair Lawn. Subsequently, he worked as a realtor for ReMax Realty and Maitland Realty, both in Hawthorne. He attended the Van Riper Ellis—Broadway
Baptist Church, Fair Lawn, for 48 years where he was a member of the choir. He was a member of the North Jersey Chorus.
Funeral was Jan. 3 at Van Riper Ellis—Broadway Baptist Church. Arrangements by Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, Hawthorne.
