John Lawrence Carter Jr., 96, of West Caldwell, formerly of Montclair, died on Saturday, Dec. 1.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m., in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair, 67 Church St., Montclair. Condolences and memories may be shared at farmerfuneral.com
Born in Montclair, Mr. Carter was raised in Quogue, N.Y., and lived most of his adult life in Montclair, moving to Crane's Mill in West Caldwell 14 years ago.
A graduate of Princeton University
, Mr. Carter was an engineer at Picatinny Arsenal in Rockaway Township for 35 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy
, serving during World War II
. In his spare time, he was a member of Montclair's Dunworkin Club.
Mr. Carter was predeceased by his parents, John Lawrence Carter Sr. and Betty Carter (Manley); and sisters, Diana Carter Hunt, and Margaret Stevens Wilson.
He is survived by his nephews, Steven Wilson, and John R. Hunt and his wife Mary; his niece, Christina Lawrence Verduin; and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
