John Philip Africano

AFRICANO - John Philip, 88 years of age, died January 18, 2004. A 50 year resident of Glen Rock, he served as a Captain in the Army during World War II and was stationed in the US and India serving there as financial officer and liaison with Chinese forces in Burma. He was a banker for over 40 years with Broadway Bank & Trust Company of Paterson, retiring as CEO and Vice-Chairman of the Board. He was past president of the Passaic County Bankers Ass'n, served as Chairman of the Paterson Parking Authority, and Vice-Chairman and board member of the Glen Rock Savings Bank for over ten years. He was also a trustee of the Glen Rock Library and a parishioner of St. Catharine's Church in Glen Rock. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Toni Africano; a daughter, Laura Nancy Ronayne of Hawthorne; a son, Jon Thomas of Wayne and two grandsons, Patrick Ronayne and Patrick Benson; a brother, Sam and a sister, Josephine. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Glen Rock Library would be appreciated. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, January 22 at 10 AM at St. Catharine's R.C. Church in Glen Rock, NJ. Friends may call Wednesday, January 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home, Ridgewood. Interment will be private at Mountainhome, PA. www.vanemburgh.com
