John R., a lifelong resident of Saddle Brook passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. John was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during World War II on the USS Gilmore, a Submarine Tender in the North Atlantic. John's family created Saddle Brook's Fire Engine Company # 2. John joined the Saddle Brook Volunteer Fire Department at age 24 faithfully serving for 65 years and became Chief of the Department in 1978-79. John owned his own plumbing and heating business with his friend Tony Tylutki, the Count. John also became Saddle Brook's first full time building and plumbing inspector and sub code and construction code official and was a former member of the township's Zoning and Planning Boards. He was a member of the Saddle Brook American Legion Post # 415 and of the Saddle Brook Historical Association and assisted with the publication of the history of Saddle Brook Township. John was also a Boy Scout Leader for Troop # 213 in the Roosevelt section of Saddle Brook. John is survived by his two daughters, Denise Sistaro and Doreen Riviello, son-in-law, David Riviello, grandchildren Colleen Ofeldt, Christine Kearney and Christopher Riviello, and his sister, Elaine DeNobile. He is predeceased by his brother, the late Norman Sistaro and his beloved dog Honey. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral from the Kugler Community Home for Funerals 311 5th St. - Saddle Brook on Friday at 9:30 AM. Mass to follow at St. Philips RC Church, Saddle Brook at 10:30 AM. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8 PM.
