NORTH ARLINGTON- Mary A. Eschner (nee DeBlasio), 88, died Thursday, Nov. 28, at her home in North Arlington. Born and raised in Paterson, she lived in North Arlington since 1952.
Mrs. Eschner was employed as a secretary in the guidance department of Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington for 25 years before retiring. She was a past president of the Queen of Peace Church Rosary Society and served on their Parish Council, a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3428, a past president and current secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 4697, and was the current secretary of the Happy Seniors Citizens of North Arlington.
Mrs. Eschner was a past president of the Sultanas of the El Sheedy Caravan No. 192, and Queen of Peace High School Mothers Club. She volunteered at St. Rose's Home for cancer patients in New York City. Mrs. Eschner was a founder of the North Arlington Girl's Softball League in 1964, and a member of several other civic organizations.
She was the devoted wife of the late William F. Eschner Sr., whom she called "the love of her life." Her memory is honored by her children, William F. Eschner Jr., Rosemary Giambalvo and her husband, Charles, Beverly Abramson and her husband, Gary, and Barbara Eschner and her husband, Richard Cantley. She was the proud grandmother of Will, Amy, Maddie, Emily, Jenna, Jack and Anthony; dear sister of Catherine Scalora and Carl DeBlasio and his wife, Ethel, and the loving aunt, cousin and friend to many. Mary wished to thank Charles Belmonte and Ann Nowicki for their many years of companionship and happy times. She was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Rose (nee Provissiero) DeBlasio, and her daughter-in-law, Marguerite Eschner.
The funeral was from the Parow Funeral Home, 185 Ridge Road, North Arlington, on Monday, Dec. 2. Entombment is at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation, 8330 Ward Pkwy., Suite 510, Kansas City, Mo. 64114.
