Mary Lou (nee Bohny), 62, of Hawthorne, on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, surrounded by her family. Born in Paterson, Mary Lou was a lifelong Hawthorne resident. After graduating from Rider College, Mary Lou worked as a reporter
for The Beacon, the newspaper for the Paterson Archdiocese, then in public relations at St. Elizabeth College. She then worked as a legislative aide to then-Assemblyman John Girgenti, and most recently was an ESL program assistant at Passaic County Community College. Mary Lou is the president of the Friends of the Louis Bay 2nd Library, vice chair of the Democrats for Hawthorne, member of the Passaic County Women Empowerment Democratic Organization and a trustee and co-founder of the Hawthorne Historical Society. She was the former president of the Bergen-Rockland Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society, a former member of the Board of Trustees at the Louis Bay 2nd Library, member of the Hawthorne Library Foundation and the former PTO president at Roosevelt Elementary and Lincoln Middle School. Mary Lou is a member of the Passaic County Democratic Committee and unsuccessfully ran three times for the Hawthorne Council. Mary Lou was the beloved wife of Charles Frankel, loving mother of Jeffrey Frankel of Hawthorne. Dear sister of Mark Bohny, his wife Linda, of Hawthorne; Robert Bohny, his wife Beth, of Wanaque; the late Donald Bohny (1953); and many nieces and nephews. The wake will be held Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Ave., Hawthorne, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will depart at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from the funeral home for a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at Church of the Nativity, Midland Park. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Louis Bay 2nd Library, 345 Lafayette Ave., Hawthorne, 07506.
