William (Carmelo), 97, of Toms River, NJ, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Van Dyke Hospice, Community Medical Center, Toms River. William was born in Rumford, ME to Joseph and Leondina (Lena) on August 2, 1915. He and his family settled in Paterson where he worked in Paterson's various silk city dye houses to help support his large family at age 14.
In 2004, he and his wife, Florence, of 57 years, moved from Paterson to Holiday City, Toms River. For eight years he received excellent care at the Fresenius Dialysis Center.
William was proud to have served his country in the Army's 112 Field Artillery during WWII
as a Sergeant which took him through Europe. He was a recipient of the American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star
Medal. He never stopped telling anyone who would listen about his experiences.
He was employed by the Passaic County Road Department in Paterson as a foreman before his retirement. He loved his job and took pride in the work he did. William loved his family, listening to music and playing his guitar.
He was predeceased by his wife, Florence (Vallese) Fiduccia in 2004; an infant twin brother, Anthony; his brothers, Albert, Salvatore, Henry, Paul and Anthony; his sisters, Flora Alfieri and Rosalie Thorne. He is survived by his loving daughters, Lorraine and her husband, John Kollar of Toms River and Carolyn Capuano of Toms River and her fiance, Steve Rowe; his brother, Rudolph Fiduccia and his wife, Louise of Wayne, NJ; his sister, Marie Howard of Wayne; his grandchildren, Daniel Capuano, James Capuano, John Kollar and Jessica Butta; his great-grandchildren, Carmelo Butta, Liliana Butta and Daniel Capuano; many nieces and nephews and good friends, especially his long-time friend and neighbor Fred Vera and his wife, Janet from Paterson, NJ.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 3-7 PM, on Monday, November 19, 2012 at The George S. Hassler Funeral Home, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ 08527 (732) 364-6808. A funeral gathering will be offered at 9 AM on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the funeral home, and proceeding to Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Rd., Arneytown, NJ, for a chapel service with military honors at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William's memory to Van Dyke Hospice, Community Medical Center, 99 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.
