Henry Spermon Obituary

SPERMON
Henry Emil (Hank), died on March 30, 2016 at the age of 75. Henry was born in Jersey City to Henry and Bertha Ege Spermon. He was raised in Jersey City and Hoboken and delighted the family with tales of his Hoboken exploits and of his association with the Boy Scouts.
Upon completing his high school education, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving in Guantanamo during the Cuban Crisis. During his years in the Navy, Hank never was on a ship but did become a fairly skilled (by his reports) scuba diver and spear fisherman.
He worked for the Port Authority of NY and NJ, rising from the maintenance department to become a steam and sprinkler fitter in charge of fire protection inspections at Newark Airport. Hank loved the Port Authority and the many friends he made there, especially Bob O'Brien and Walter Schneider. He retired in 2003 after 38 years.
Hank loved antiques, art and history. After his retirement, he was able to enjoy extensive travel abroad and through the U.S. A favorite pastime was attending auctions, flea markets and garage sales, always quick to find an item that he thought a friend or family member would enjoy.
Above all, Hank loved his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Geraldine E. O'Kane, his devoted and loving children, Henry Michael Spermon (Suzanne) and Corinne Miskowsky (Daniel Jr.), his adored grandchildren, Kyle Henry Miskowsky, Nicole, Bert and Kyle Antoine, his cherished and dearly loved sister, Katherine (Kay) Browne (Pierce), his sister-in-law Kathleen Wellenbrink (Michael Schiess) and brother-in-law Robert O'Kane (Geraldine).
His deep love for his nieces and nephews; Kathleen deLaive (Andrew), Thomas Browne (Elaine), Patrick Browne (Linda), Christopher Browne (Lori), "niece" Michelle Coniglio, Kerry Sadaka (Chad), Christopher Wellenbrink (Lauren), Meghan Wellenbrink, Brendan and Erin O'Kane - was overwhelmingly reciprocated.
Just as he was so proud of his own children, he reveled in reporting the achievements of his nieces and nephews and of their offspring. He lovingly adopted the position of "Grandpa Hank" to Joel, Elin and Sean Herndon and enjoyed a special tie to their parents, Alexis and Steve Herndon. A special spark ignited between him and his grandson, Kyle Miskowsky, whom he loved to the moon and back.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Steven Wellish and to the late Dr. Robert Birns and their associates for the extraordinary care that they provided Henry over many, many years.
Hank was a good and sweet man whose passing leaves a large void in the hearts and souls of his family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Bizub Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton on Friday, April 1st from 4-8 PM. and on Saturday, April 2nd from 10:30-11:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans, The Veterans of Foreign Wars or your favorite Veterans charity. Please visit www.bizub.com for online condolences and driving directions.
