James G. Timmerman
James G. Timmerman, 83, of West Windsor, passed away at Temple University Hospital on Tuesday, March 28, 2017.
Born in New York City, he resided there until moving to Wayne, NJ as a teenager. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and was honorably discharged as Private First Class. In 1963, Mr. Timmerman graduated from Fairleigh-Dickenson University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He began his career with Kearfott Corporation as an engineer specializing in avionics and navigation systems, ultimately retiring from Kearfott in 1998 after 35 years of service. His designs and subsystems appeared in many air defense, aircraft and space programs, including the F-111 and F-16 aircraft, the MILSTAR satellite, NASA's SkyLab space station, and the Apollo moon missions. He was a Life Member of the IEEE.
Mr. Timmerman resided in Butler, NJ from 1965 to 2000 where he was involved in the community and was on the Board of Education from 1983 to 1989. Since 1953, he was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, of which he was an Honorary Life Member. He was a Charter member of Our Lady of the Highway Council 3835 in Little Falls serving as Grand Knight from 1966 to 1967. While living in Butler, he also served as Faithful Navigator of the Franciscan Friars General Assembly from 1973 to 1974.
In 2001, Mr. Timmerman moved to the Village Grande community in West Windsor where he served on multiple home owners association committees. He was a Charter Member of St. David the King Knights of Columbus Council 14716, where he served as Financial Secretary from 2009 to 2014, trustee since 2014 and was named Honorary Grand Knight in 2015.
Predeceased by his parents, Agnes and Gerard Timmerman, and his brothers, Father Thomas Timmerman and Kenneth Ford; he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Timmerman of West Windsor; his children, Theresa McCullers and her husband Howard of Sterling, VA; Colonel Thomas Timmerman and his wife, J.P. stationed in Albuquerque, NM; and Barbara Soifer, her husband, Jon, and their children Alec and Evan, of Flemington, NJ; and his sister, Mary Ann Fortney of Crowne Point, IN.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. David the King RC Church, 1 New Village Road, Princeton Junction, NJ 08550.
Interment will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, April 3, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ 08690.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Timmerman's memory to the Mt. Carmel Guild.
