Arthur Broadbent Obituary

RIDGEWOOD - Arthur Robert Eric Broadbent, 62, a 23-year Ridgewood resident, died on April 15.

Arthur was born in Barrington, R.I., and raised in Hamden, Ct. He obtained a bachelor's degree in architecture from Yale University before earning a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business. He then devoted his 29-year career to J.P. Morgan's investment banking business, eventually serving the bank by architecting computer programs that processed its most complicated transactions. His programs were considered the best on Wall Street. Known as Art to most people, he had a jovial, almost childlike goofiness that endeared him to others. His honesty and humility were greatly admired. In retirement, he enjoyed time with his family and devotedly practiced his choral repertoire. He was a tenor in the Ridgewood Singers (serving as one of its presidents) and the adult choir of St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church. He also assumed various leadership positions within St. Elizabeth's, including as a member of the Vestry and former chair of the Outreach Committee.

He was the husband of Wendy; father of Katie, John and Sarah; son of Janet Geraci Broadbent; brother of Lucie and her family of Manolis, Nikos and Marianna.

A memorial service will be held at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Ridgewood on April 23. Ashes were interred in the church's memorial garden.

Memorial donations may be made to the Arthur Broadbent Memorial Fund, whose proceeds shall be divided, at the family's discretion, among three worthy causes: 1. a scholarship devoted to sending youth to choir camp; 2. the Ridgewood Singers and St. Elizabeth's Church Choir; 3. St. Philip's Theological College in Kongwa, Tanzania, to benefit local families with children who have disabilities. To donate, visit gofundme.com/artbroadbentfund.
