Cathern Mulick

MULICK
Cathern (Tyma), 80, of Clifton passed away on January 25, 2013. Cathern was born on May 5, 1932. She grew up in Keisterville, PA, in a coal mining town before moving to Passaic when she was 11 years old. She attended Passaic HS and worked after school at Suzzan's Fur Store. She met her husband, Nick "Marcus" Mulick in April 1948 when she was 16 at a dance at St. Mary's Church. They lived in the same apartment building and spent their first evening out on a double date. They married on October 6, 1951 at St. Joseph's Church, Passaic, and honeymooned in Miami Beach. They lived at 31 Broadway in Passaic when they were newlyweds. For a time, Mrs. Mulick worked at Gaybrand's Handbag Co., Garfield, and later at various banks where she eventually became a Mortgage Closer. Her husband became a firefighter for the city of Passaic where he worked until his retirement. The Mulick's bought a house on Onyx Ct., Passaic, where they lived and raised their children until 1972 when they bought a home in Upper Greenwood Lake. They lived there until 1984 when they moved to Clifton. Cathern loved to care for animals and took care of stray cats near her home in Greenwood Lake besides having her own cats and dogs. She also took daily walks and enjoyed taking the bus to Atlantic City on the weekends to gamble occasionally with her friends. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed listening to music from the 1940's & 50's, including Frank Sinatra. In the summers, she and her husband would vacation in Wildwood, which became an annual tradition for their family. Cathern loved and enjoyed her family. She celebrated holidays with traditional foods from her family's Polish heritage, including homemade pierogi, kielbasa, and her mother's mushroom soup. At Christmas time, she spent a week making 10 different kinds of homemade cookies, which she presented as gifts to her family members. Beloved wife of the late Nick "Marcus" Mulick, who passed away in 1998. Devoted mother of Marie Howe and her husband Rick of Wayne, and Mark Mulick, who works as an Attorney in Montclair, and his wife Elizabeth Moore, who is the Director of Public Relations for Clara Maass Hospital, Belleville, both of West Caldwell. Cherished grandmother of Carrie Franco and her husband Patrick, Jr. of Hoboken, Laura Jung and her husband Edward of Randolph, Ryan Howe of Wayne, Dylan Mulick of California, and Jake, Ben and Sam Mulick, all of West Caldwell. Adored great grandmother of Patrick Franco III and Julian Franco. Funeral Tuesday 9 AM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, and 10 AM at St. John Kanty RC Church, Clifton. Entombment, St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi. Visiting Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Funeral Home.
