John Mangini Obituary

John J., 84, of Wall Township passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 24, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at Sunnyside Manor, Wall.
John was born in New York City to Clori Campomenosi and John Joseph Mangini on September 20, 1929. He resided in Leonia, Fort Lee and Oradell New Jersey before moving to the Jersey Shore 54 years ago.
John was a graduate of Fort Lee High School in 1947 and went on to Muhlenberg College, class of 1951. He earned his law degree from Fordham School of Law in 1954. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served in Korea as a Defense Attorney for the Judge Advocate General Courts; it was there that he won his first case as a defense attorney. After the war, John was commissioned to Assistant US Attorney under Chester A. Weidenburner.
In 1958 John married Patricia Loh Cosgrove daughter of Amelia Loh and Frederick Otto Cosgrove former owners of the Warren Hotel Spring Lake NJ. In 1961, John became a partner of Campbell Mangini Foley and Lee in Asbury Park. In the early 70's John started his own firm Mangini Gilroy and Cramer in Wall Township. He served as Township Attorney for Wall and Howell Townships for many years. In his later years, John practiced as John Jay Mangini PC in Brielle, retiring in 2005 after 51 years of service.
John was a founding father of the Allaire State Bank, Wall, which was established in 1973. As counsel for the bank he was instrumental in the mergers' of National Community Bank and then Bank of New York. John served as a board member at all 3 institutions. He also served on the Board of Directors for Brick Hospital and Point Pleasant Hospital and was involved with the formation of The Brick Hospital Foundation. John was a member of the Wall Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club of Wall, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, the Wall Knights of Columbus and served as Vice President of the Republican Club of Wall.
An avid golfer, John was a member of the Spring Lake Golf Club from 1973 to present. He served asPresident from 1982 to 1983. John was a partner of awell-known golf group called "Foursome-Forever" with Carl Menk, Francis X. O'Connor and J. Howard Carter and attended foursomes at Augusta National for many years. He was also a member of the Manasquan River Yacht Club where he served as council and the Willoughby Golf Club in Stuart Florida.
John was a parishioner of St. Catharine's Church in Spring Lake.
His hobbies included golf, skiing, tennis, football, fishing, cooking, gardening, building and designing.
He is predeceased by his parents Clori C. Mangini and John Joseph Mangini and is survived by his children Lisa P Mangini of Wethersfield, VT, Pamela M Schaefer and partner Cheryl Myers of Milford, DE, John Jay Mangini Jr. and partner Paula Egan of Pt. Pleasant, Linda M. Padula of Manasquan, Priscilla Mangini Confrey and husband Matthew B. Confrey of Spring Lake. Also surviving are his six grandchildren, John Jay Mangini III, Julia Mangini, Emily and Clara Padula, Olivia and Amelia Confrey, his sister Benita Jones of Albuquerque, NM and former spouse Patricia C. Mangini of Spring Lake. He is also survived by two nieces, two nephews and many other family members and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, September 30, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Catharine's Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake, NJ 07762. Private burial will be in St. Catharine's Cemetery, Sea Girt at a later date.
