WANAQUE — Services were held for Joseph Francis Nolan Sr., 84, of the Haskell section of this community, who died on Wednesday, November 14, 2012.

Born in Manhattan, N.Y., Mr. Nolan lived in the Bronx, N.Y., before moving to Haskell 46 years ago. He worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and also for the New York City Transit Authority as a mechanic and foreman. Also, he was a past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus St. Francis Council No. 2617 and a member of American Legion No. 246. He was the Americanism Chairman of Pompton Lakes Elks No. 1895 and a Special Olympics coach. And, he was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Services were Saturday at the D'Agostino Funeral Home, Haskell, followed by Mass at St. Francis R.C. Church. Interment was at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Explorer Post No. 136 BSA, c/o Terry Shaw, 514 Cannella Way, Building 5, Riverdale, NJ 07457.

Mr. Nolan is survived by his wife, the former Ann Nicholson; his son, Joseph of Haskell; his daughters, Annie and Geri, both of Haskell; and two grandchildren.
