Irvin B. Ackerson, 91, of Jefferson Township, died on Dec. 24. Ackerson (known as "Irv") was born and lived his whole life in the Oak Ridge section of Jefferson.
Ackerson was a dairy farmer and in 1955 he started Irv Ackerson Excavating. He was a member of the Sussex Bank Board of Directors; he also was |a member of the Franklin Hospital Board of Directors and served over 50 years on the Jefferson Planning Board and Board of Adjustment. He was given the honor of Citizen of the Year in Jefferson in 2010. Ackerson was predeceased by his brothers Allan and Amzy Ackerson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, |Marjorie (nee Hill) Ackerson; devoted daughters: Linda Hackett of Jefferson and Ellen Cosh and her husband Ken of Jefferson; grandchildren: Todd Hackett of Jefferson; Troy Hackett and his wife Amanda of Jefferson; Brad Cosh and his wife Meagan of Sparta and Tamara Walsh and her husband Mike of Warwick, N.Y. Ackerson is also survived by six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
