Cornelius J., Jr. (Neil) died on April 7, 2013 surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer.
Son of the late Theresa and Cornelius Pilaar, Neil was born in Haledon, NJ, attended St. Mary's High School, Totowa, and served in the US Army with the occupation troops in Germany after World War II. Neil worked as a baker but after becoming allergic to flour he worked in the printing industry for Berlin-Jones for over 25 years.
Beloved husband of Patricia (Heron-Madsen), loving father of Cornelius (Neil) (Allison), George (Christine), Brian (Cheryl), John (Karin) and Eric (Susan); stepfather to Edward Madsen (Kathleen), Janet Madsen (Walter Wurster), Elizabeth Hackett (Michael) and Eric Madsen (Carla). Grandfather of 22: David (Melissa), Brian, and Christina Pilaar; Kyle, Evan and Brendan Pilaar; Sophie and Sara Pilaar; Lauren and Kelly Pilaar; John Pilaar; Megan, Kathryn and Shannon Madsen; Amy, Erica, Anna and Emily Koepfler; Erin, Ryan, Liam and Kaci Hackett; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Brother of Johannes Pilaar and the late Johanna Vanderbeck. Brother-in-law to Robert Heron and Dorothea Heron.
A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM Friday at St. Mary's RC Church, Pompton Lakes. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains.
