Col. David Stokes, of Allendale, New Jersey. Born in Passaic County General Hopsital, NJ on 25 March 1924. Passed away peacefully on 11 December 2012. An eleventh generation descendant of Pieter Quackenbush who came to New Netherland from Oestgeest, Holland in 1653, on the ship Graft. Son of the late Edwin Quackenbush and Anna Sewell Stokes. A graduate of Yale University, BFA in 1951 and MFA degree in 1952. He attended the Army War College, Washington, DC in 1969. Colonel Quackenbush was assigned as staff officer in Headquarters, Chief of Staff, Air Intelligence at the Pentagon for 18 years. He developed a system for the computerized collection of intelligence data. He retired from the military in 1976, with 34 years of combined Army and Air Force service, with five campaign stars in the ETO; the Air Force Accommodation Award and from WWII, an Honorary Citizenship of Communale d'Olne, Belgium. He was employed as Publication Coordinator and Graphic Designer, Medical Research Department, Lederle Laboratories, Division of American Cyanamid Co., Pearl River, NY.
Colonel Quackenbush was a life member of the Holland Society of NY and a member of the Allendale Shade Tree Commission.
Colonel Quackenbush was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Whalen Quackenbush in April 2011. Family will receive visitors on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ.
Anglican funeral will be held at St. Elizabeth's Chapel, Tuxedo, NY on Saturday at 11 AM with interment to follow in St. Elizabeth's Chapel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Valley Hospital Foundation, Ridgewood, NJ., Valley Hospice or St. Elizabeth's Chapel.
