Edward J. Sr., passed away peacefully with friends and family around him on May 13, 2013 at the age of 84. Born on December 15, 1928 in Ridgefield, NJ to Minnie and John, he joined big brother Will and was raised in Ridgefield. He graduated Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, where he played football and was voted 'best natured'. Ed went on to Villanova University, continuing his football career. He was just short of graduating when he left to fight for our country in Korea. He earned a purple heart and came home an honored soldier. Ed worked many years in the HVAC industry before retiring. Ed was truly the type of guy everyone knew and loved, from the neighborhood to the butcher and the baker, to the crossing guard who, by the way, he fell in love with and married! Ed and Jennie got hitched on April 17, 1996. We will remember his awesome homemade pea soup, his passion for all things chocolate, and his sense of humor. In so many ways in his life, Ed fought the good fight. He leaves behind the love of his life, Jennie Sciacovelli Lilienthal, his four children, Edward Lilienthal Jr., Laura Byrne, Nancy Hoffman, and Eric Lilienthal, along with their spouses Torrie, Joe and Howard. Ed also leaves five grandchildren, James, Nicholas, Jessica, Joseph and Michael, and his two step-grandsons, Josh and Bret. Ed also leaves one of his best friends, his mini dachshund, Frankie, along with many other loving friends and family. Visiting will be at Blackley Funeral Home, 809 Broad Avenue, Ridgefield, NJ (201) 945-5032 on Thursday from 4-8 PM. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Friday at 9:30 AM to attend the funeral service there on Friday at 10:30 AM. Final prayers will be held on Friday at 12 noon at Cedar Lawn Crematory, McClean Blvd. & Crooks Ave., Paterson, NJ. In lieu of all flowers, Edward's family requests that donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 6350 North Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309 www.msfocus.org .
