Eric Christian Obituary

CHRISTIAN
Marine SSgt Eric D., beloved son of Linda and Robert Christian; beloved brother of Mark, Phil, and Chris and sister-in-law, Patricia; beloved uncle to Lexa, Harry, and Adara Abrahamsen; and hero to a country was killed in Afghanistan on Saturday, May 4, 2013.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Arlington National Cemetery where Eric was buried with full honors and awarded the Purple Heart. On Saturday, June 8th at 12 noon, a brief service will be conducted at the Veterans Memorial, Main Street, Ramsey, NJ, followed by a 'Memorial Celebration' from 1:30-5:30 PM at the Mahwah Elks Lodge, 1 Foxwood Lane, Mahwah NJ.
Eric was more than a Marine. He was a man who embodied compassion and integrity; lived in a place of truth and realness; and believed in making life exactly what he wanted it to be. He was able to stay so present and appreciate each moment for what it was. Eric was fearless and adventurous and at the same time private and vulnerable. As a giver, he embodied compassion and integrity. As an independent thinker, he accepted everything for what it was and everyone for who they are. Although his faith was tested tremendously because of his career, spiritually he was accepting and comfortable with the divine order of life. He had a profound sense of obligation and duty to his loved ones.
We will remember you as you were…a noble man.
The winds that sometimes take something we love, are the same that bring us something we learn to love. Therefore we should not cry about something that was taken from us, but, yes, love what we have been given. Because what is really ours is never gone forever. - Bob Marley

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Eric will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn't make it home.
I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

I Salute You.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to SSG Eric D. Christian our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Eric. And to Eric it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the supreme sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. Eric you gave the last full measure of devotion for what you believed in and fought for. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Eric, you are a brave Marine Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Edgar's family and loved ones.
