Frank Jolliffe Obituary

JOLLIFFE
Frank, 53, Jazz instrumentalist, died of a heart attack on February 8.
Frank was an extraordinarily accomplished and influential musician who played "touchstyle" instruments, the Warr guitar and Chapman Stick. He performed widely at clubs in New York and music festivals in Europe, and he taught at the National Guitar Workshop and elsewhere. He worked as a librarian in recent years, at Bank Street College, South Orange Public Library, and the Columbia University Center for Jazz Studies.
Frank grew up in Clifton, studied at Berklee College of Music and William Paterson University, and held an M.L.S. from Rutgers. He was a longtime resident of the Essex and Phoenix Mills artists housing in Paterson, NJ. He is survived by his former partner Laurie Lynchant and her son, Steven Gravatt, a close circle of fellow musicians and other friends, and extended family.
There will be a memorial concert at the Ivanhoe Wheelhouse, 4 Spruce Street, Paterson, April 1, from 1-4 PM, with performances by ArtCrime and others.

Peace be with you, Frank. We only met once, but you were such a strong influence on my husband Richard Lainhart. He was so glad to have connected with you again last year. Too short a time. You are missed.
