FRANCE
Harold Stanley, 88, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014 at his home in Tappan, New York. Harold was born on May 25, 1925 to Alex and Mary (Bruno) France in Garfield, New Jersey. He is survived by his cousin Caroline Paparozzi and predeceased by his sister Elaine Schomberg and cousin Marguerite Brown.
His wife, Elinor Levey France and their beloved dog, Bella, survive him; Also Harold, Paula (Pierre), Leslie (Frank) and Caren (Kevin) children of Florence DeRosa; his stepchildren, Jonathan (Monique) and Theodore (Mei) and grandchildren, Oscar, Lyric and Samuel.
At the age of twelve Harold became an original member of The Holy Name Fife, Drum and Bugle Corps, in Garfield, his profound love for music continued throughout his life.
Harold served in the Marine Corps in WWII and the Korean War. The GI bill supported his further education and he earned degrees from Montclair State College, Columbia University, and a Doctorate from Rutgers State University.
He was Superintendent of Schools in the Maywood and Englewood Cliffs, NJ schools, and Assistant Superintendent in the Fort Lee School District.
Hal joined the Ridgewood Symphony in his retirement. His passion for music and his educational and administrative skills came together as he played the upright bass for 13 years and served as Vice President and longtime trustee on the symphony's Board of Directors.
