Harvey, age 84, of Paramus, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.
Beloved husband for over 50 years of Judith Deutsch. Devoted father of Deborah Deutsch of New York City, Michael Deutsch and his wife Virve of New York City, Edward Deutsch and his wife Jessica of Princeton, NJ, and Lori Weiner of Ellenville, NY. Proud and cherished grandfather of Daniel, Rachel, Alexander, Madeline, Annika and Brynne. Great-grandfather of Daniel and Zachary. Dear brother of Claire Rosenbaum of River Edge, NJ and Stewart Deutsch and his wife Myra of Bethesda, MD.
Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in North Bergen, NJ, Harvey was a resident of Paramus for 43 years.
Before college Harvey completed the Rutgers University-Army Specialized Training Program and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. A graduate of Upsala College, he also took graduate courses at Cornell University. Harvey was Senior Vice President & Financial Counselor for over 35 years with Smith Barney in Paramus. He previously held senior sales manager positions with Olivetti-Underwood and Technical Tape Corporation.
An active civic leader in Bergen County, Harvey held a number of leadership roles with area organizations, including: Director of Paramus Rotary, Chairman of Paramus-Oradell United Jewish Appeal, Chairman of Israel Bonds, Director of UJC Endowment Fund, member of Jewish War Veterans Post #669, Bergen Community College, Paramus Golf Commission, first Chairman of the Foundation of Bergen Regional Medical Center, Anti-Defamation League, B'nai Brith, Paramus School System Citizens Advisory Committees, St. Elizabeth's College Pelican Award, director of the Boys Club in Paramus and Paramus Little League.
He was an active member of Temple Avodat Shalom in River Edge for over 40 years.
Services will be 1 PM today at Temple Avodat Shalom, 385 Howland Avenue, River Edge. Burial will follow at Beth El Cemetery, Paramus, NJ.
